messaging: responsiveness of messaging UI impacted by boost pop-out menu

      1. Using theme boost, set screen resolution (using chrome device simulator for example) to 1024 x 768
      2. Access messages via the user menu
      3. Add a contact (if none exist) and click their name so that their information is displayed in the right-hand pane
      4. Open the boost pop-out menu from the left of the page.
      5. Observe that the right-hand pane looks really squashed, and it hasn't snapped over to single pane mode. See the attached image
