A partner reported that in the metadata on Moodle.org that Moodle is described as a "CMS" (Course Management System) and not an "LMS" (Learning Management System).

A quick "View page source" and searching for "CMS" reveals this meta tag:

<meta name="description" content="Moodle is a Learning Platform or course management system (CMS) - a free Open Source software package designed to help educators create effective online courses based on sound pedagogical principles. You can download and use it on any computer you have handy (including webhosts), yet it can scale from a single-teacher site to a 200,000-student University. Moodle has a large and diverse user community with over 100,000 sites registered worldwide speaking over 140 languages in every country there is." />

According to the post from the partner, Globally, "CMS" is also commonly used to refer to a "Content Management System" (i.e. Drupal or Joomla) and may cause confusion for people looking for Moodle the LMS. The partner suggested LMS should be used consistently in the marketing.

This ticket has been created to suggest changing CMS to LMS, however it could be open to discussion.
