With the changes in database requirements since Moodle 4.2, our Windows (built on XAMPP) and Mac OS (built on MAMP) packages no longer meet the database requirements.
- The latest version of XAMPP ships with MariaDB 10.4.32
- The latest version of MAMP ships with MySQL 8.0.35
Moodle 5.0 requires MariaDB 10.11 and MySQL 8.4. So, developers/admins using these packages must install the database server that meets the version requirements separately to use these packages.
The question now is: What do we do now?
Option A - Stop offering Windows/Mac OS packages on our downloads page
Option B - Find a way somehow...
