Dear team,
I add this as an epic, as this would of course be a desirable outcome of our plugin guardians team.
We have discussed several topics in the past:
- If a plugin review is necessary at all
- If we should be contributing plugin reviews with our time
- If we want to promote plugin guardian role at moodle.org
Of course, it is likely that such issues have been discussed in the past, but not in the last 2 years to my knowledge, and things have changed significantly as for team and resources.
As information on the current status of things, the situation is not so dire as marie.achour@moodle.com and I thought, but I collate the information that I collected here.
Curiously, we sort of anticipate the outcome of a plugin with our interest.
You can conceptualize the following table as sorting the results best to worst and looking at the element at position 25% (first data column), in the middle and position 75%. Commenting the "overall" row, for at least 25% of the plugins, we approve them in the day (suspicious, we should check the meaning of our data), for half of the plugin reviews we take less than 20 days and for the slowest 25% of the reviews we take more than 2 months.
And two more metrics. First, the month of creation of items pending today (Dec 19, 2023).
And finally the items that were pending action per month of creation in the last 3 years. This shows that we are not doing too poorly and that we are doing generally better than in the last 3 years.
By the way, all this doesn't mean that plugin submitters don't currently complain or that we shouldn't strive to do even better, imho, but it's good to know where we are.
Best, Carles
