Historically, the plugin repository let users filter by "plugin type", which is a technical concept. We would like to make the page more understandable to non-techie users and we are suggesting a redefinition of "type --> category", where categories are meant to be understandable to teachers without previous Moodle knowledge. Categories are a superset of types, so they group different types together (or are simply a single type).
