      I got it working with the following minor changes: https://gist.github.com/andrewnicols/27c9a05e122e2c78840a
      Need to check that this works with the current version we use (1.5.3), and the 2.X series.

      Also may want to look at updating PHPCompatability (https://github.com/wimg/PHPCompatibility)
