This issue is about to create one generic packager that, given a commit/tag/branch spec, and some other basic information (target directory, compress format...), is able to generate one package using one git repository as source.

Surely it will end being a git xxxx extension so it can be used in a natural form like "git package v2.4.2" or similar. Also, for post-processing, it would be interesting to generate (optionally) one manifest file with all the sensible information.
