This has been raised in the audit:
The "How would you describe this image to someone who can't see it?" field has character limitations. However, when it reaches the limitation, the system gives visual feedback only.
Assistive technology users, such as screen reader users, do not receive feedback when they have already reached the maximum number of characters allowed for the alt text field. Screen readers like JAWS, NVDA, and Narrator will keep announcing the user's typed letters even though they have already reached the maximum number of characters for the field. On the other hand, VoiceOver does not announce the keys being typed when the limit is reached, which is somehow better.
This reported issue affects the editor's image picker and the Generate AI image (4.5 and up) functionality.
(Optional) It would also be useful to extend this solution in a general way, applying it to any input fields with defined min length and max length attributes.
