This improvement have I seen in Wordpress. There you can type a slash to easily add an block to the webpage.

Within Moodle, I think that we can do something similar. And this improvement is an alternative for the activity chooser.

If a course developer wants to add an activity or resource, this are the steps:

      1. Turn editing on (or use a hot key)
      2. Click on icon to type text (extra icon beside the icon 'Add an activity or resource'
      3. Type / and start typing the name of the activity or resource
      4. when typing a dropdown list appears to show the activities and resource thats match the letters you wrote
      5. click on the activity or resource to add this module or when there is one module left, press enter
