Moodle offers a lot of functionnalities but it is very complicated and each activity or resource has a lot of parameters to configure.
However, I noticed that we often recommand some specific configuration for specific use, like certificative quiz, formative quiz or formative quiz with hints. Other quiz configuration are unusual in our institution.
Today, teachers have to use a lot of tools (not only Moodle) and tools have therefore to be simple.
So, I think it would be great to enable administrators to define templates with activity or resource configuration. Administrators should be able to :
- define templates for each activity or resource and decide wich parameters are forced and hidden for this template;
- decide whether teacher may access the custom activity or resource full configuration or not.
For example, if an administrator decides to define 3 templates for quiz and enable teacher to create custom quiz, the options while creating a quiz should be :
- formative quiz : simplified configuration form with no time limit, unlimited attempts, predefined question behavior to deffered feedback and all review options checked
- formative quiz with hints : simplified configuration form with no time limit, unlimited attempts, predefined question behavior to interractive with multiple tries and review options during attempt with whether correct, maximum mark, specific feedback checked and all other review options checked;
- certificative quiz : simplified configuration form with 1 attempt, predefined question behavior to deffered feedback and all review options unchecked except global feedback that has value forced to "Your answers are well saved".
- custom quiz : full quiz configuration form
This is an example, other Moodle admins should prefer other default configurations, and for example not authorize teacher to create custom quiz.
This should make Moodle a very configurable tool while making it possible to make it more simple.
