Improve the options for admins and teachers to control access to AI features.
Currently for AI placements user access to AI actions is controlled by capabilities (and which actions are enabled for that placement). Capabilities are correct for the base level, but the options to configure where and who have access is limited. For example currently teachers can only control where students can use AI by the course and activity level capability overrides, this isn't he best experience.
It would be beneficial to teachers if the had better control over where AI can be used in their course. It also would be beneficial if Admins can set site level defaults, that can be locked or overridden at course level by teachers.
The first part of this work is the UX work to determine where and how teachers and admins can control AI access, once this is done and the designs are created they can then be implemented.
As above this will work will need UX work first. As some initial thoughts the minimum granularity for these controls is probably per activity per course. So for example this will allow a teacher to disable the ability for students to "generate text" in a specific quiz activity in a course. But not for an individual question or question type in that course.
For teachers, LMS course activities already support the ability to extend the settings for activities. Current examples of this include things like "Tags" and "Competencies", an option (but not the only one) would be to add a configuration section for AI actions.
For admins there are several examples of being able to set course level defaults for their site. A recent example is for activity completion defaults
