When matrix is enabled in course properties, the course name automatically becomes the name of the matrix room.

But when the course name is changing for any reason, the matrix room name is not changed accordingly.

As it says on <moodle instance>/communication/configure.php that the name may just become the course name, this just holds for the time the course is created (because of bug MDL-83143 it wont change any time later either).

Anyway this seems to be a one-time-show on course creation as afterwards there is no way to know if the matrix room name has been changed manually (so even triggering a matrix room name update on course name changes seems to be not helpful as this also overwrites intentional changes of the matrix room name).

This is quite an issue for schools/institutions where the course name is changing (e.g. from 6b to 7b) and the old course name 5b gets the 6b now. Moodle-courses are correctly named, but Matrix rooms follow the old scheme.

It would be great if

• there is some kind of checkbox "always use course names for matrix names"/"allow arbitrary names" in admin settings and/or in course/communication settings
• the course name synchronisation takes place during cron jobs, not only when saving the configuration settings manually

So there would be the chance to always keep Moodle-courses and Matrix rooms in sync (not only the users).
