Based on MDL-78592 and the feedback received in the comments, we have decided to implement this as a default behavior, rather than adding another option to the already crowded settings page for a feature that would impact only a single user interaction.

To prevent overwhelming students when they first access a course, all sections except the general one will be collapsed by default. This allows students to quickly grasp the course structure without being distracted by the details of individual activities they will need to complete throughout the course. Presenting information progressively helps reduce cognitive load, enabling users to focus on relevant content at the appropriate time, rather than trying to process everything simultaneously.
