I've recently built a couple of custom fields that allow you to link to courses, course sections and users. When doing backup and restore between sites (and in the case of sections when duplicating courses) it is necessary to re-map the IDs that are referenced. From what I can tell there is currently no way to do this so I've had to write a companion local plugin for each one to handle backup and restore which is pretty in-elegant.
