1. Create new user with 'Generate password and notify user'.
2. Have a look at email to that new user.

WHAT TO EXPECTED

The mail should show the new user's first name in place of the placeholder ''{$a->firstname}'' inside the ''newusernewpasswordtext'' string.

WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENS

The full name is displayed.

On a side note: In the language pack ''de_du'', I found the placeholder ''{$a->lastname}'' which was not resolved in the corresponding email at all.
