With the increasing prevalence of tablets and surface devices among K12 students, it will soon be feasible to pose fully adequate online exams in STEM subjects. One missing ingredient, however, is pen/stylus-based handwritten input. From my perspective, there is only one modern solution to this, namely the horrendously expensive Poodll plugin.

I would therefore like to suggest either a quiz question type or a general whiteboard-style Atto editor enhancement that would allow students to easily input handwriting, particularly mathematical calculations and derivations. Most students are by now familiar with OneNote and similar annotation apps. So a simplified version of these would be perfect, maybe starting with a ball pen with choosable color and stroke width.

Since such functionality exists for teacher annotations of handed-in pdf files, I hope that a similar input option can be implemented for students as well. Thanks for considering it!
