We're currently using Font Awesome 4.7 which is no longer in support.
We could upgrade to Font Awesome 5, but we'd be limited to using the Free version where it's mostly comprised of the solid (and thicker icons) since they still have no plans on how open source projects can use its Pro version.
So an alternative would be to replace Font Awesome 4.7 with its fork, Fork Awesome, which is now maintained by the community.
