In a Moodle course, using the "Topics" format with the "Show one section per page" course layout, the sections, i.e. pages, are numbered sequentially. They can be linked using the URL of the section which contains the section number. If sections are moved or new sections are inserted between existing sections, the sections are renumbered and links to the sections become incorrect because they are not automatically updated according to the new numbering.

It would be nice if the sections could have a user-defined name, much like in a wiki, which would allow preserving links to them, both from within Moodle or from outside Moodle, even if the sections are moved or new sections are inserted.

This issue was discussed in the "Courses and course formats" forum where Emma Richadson suggested to make it a Tracker request and Gareth J Barnard suggested a development track.
