For searching users there exist two Webservice-Functions: core_user_get_users and core_user_get_users_by_field. Both do not contain the field "maildisplay" from the userprofile. When developing an app that allows a user search possibly the mail-address is revealed even though the user does not want this.

It would be better to get this piece of information with the results of the two webservice functions.
