From site administration, active "Multi-Language Content" filter and be sure it applies to "Content and headings". From a course, active "Multi-Language Content" filter. Edit settings and rename the student role with content like this: " <span class="multilang" lang="en">Learner</span><span class="multilang" lang="ru">Ученик</span><span class="multilang" lang="de">Lerner</span><span class="multilang" lang="es">Alumno</span> ". Go to participants and verify that Roles column only shows the student role name in the current language. Change current language to ru, de or es and check that Roles column content for students has changed with the corresponding language translation.
