Deadlocked error on gradebook export to Excel

      When attempting to export a gradebook to Excel, the process will attempt to run until our PHP timeout limit is reached. This problem affects some, but not all courses. The problem only occurs when the 'Excel spreadsheet' option is selected, not 'OpenDocument spreadsheet' or 'Plain text file'.
      The affected environment:
      MS Windows Server 2012R2
      MS SQL Server 2014
      PHP 5.6
