It would be nice if there could be two reply options: reply and Quoted reply. A quoted reply would quote (and somehow highlight) the original message in the reply.
A nice way to quote the original message would be to arrange the quoted text in a set width, maybe 40 or 50 characters, that begin with the greater than symbol. That would make it easy to break up the quoted text so that answers could be interspersed throughout the quoted message.
Like this:
> original message, and so on
> another bit and so on
and the reply
> another part of the original message
with the reply
