It seems that we require proper ACID compliance in moodle but we don't really detect the support for it properly.
MDL-27767 seems to suggest that there must be a better way (than the current) to detect this.

It should be possible perhaps to have this as a test during the installation checklist - so that support for the installation is well and truly definitive.
