access your DB and select the config table, rename 'coursesperpage' to 'coursesperpagexyz'

as admin, access site admin > courses > add/edit courses

select one of the categories

make sure there's no error occurs

access config table again and rename 'coursesperpagexyz' to 'coursesperpage'
