After upgrading to RC2, I have found extra <br> tags are now being inserted in a number of places. I also confirmed the appearance of these tags in all themes and on the qa.moodle.net site.

These extra <br> tags cannot be styled and did not exist in RC1. They are making it difficult to position things.

Below are screenshots from firebug (from the qa.moodle.net site) showing the extra <br> tags. So far, I have found them on the frontpage, under site news, and on course pages in several spots. They may exist in additional places.
