From test MDLQA-494 about gradebook restore:

To create course I did the following:

      a. Create new course GRADETEST, use all default settings
      b. Assign existing test users u1, u2 to course as student
      c. Create quiz 'Graded activity A' in first week and add a true/false question 'The answer is true'
      d. Create graded activity B, C reusing the same question
      e. View grades, click 'Categories and items', simple view
      f. Add category C1, default settings
      g. Add category C2, default settings, parent category C1
      h. Left grade from A in course level; moved grade from B to C1 and C to C2

NOTE: In the simple grade interface I was initially confused by the 'Extra credit' tickboxes and the 'Move selected items' function. I was selecting the items using the tickboxes which were actually intended for the 'extra credit' options. Not sure if this is just me or there is a usability issue.

After that, the setup was complete, so I logged in as u1 and got 100% on activity A (only). Then I logged in as u2 and got 100% on activity B and 0% on activity C.

I logged back in as admin and did a backup, leaving all options default. This includes all activities. The backup completed successfully.

I immediately selected Restore and choose the 'New course' option, selecting the Miscellaneous category. On the following screen I typed in the shortname GRADETEST2 and continued, leaving all options default. The restore completed successfully (although there is a minor grammar/style error in the continue message which uses a comma where it should be a semicolon, but whatever).

However the new created course did not contain any of the quizzes nor any of the grades!

note: created course DOES have the correct enroled users. woohoo.

On going through the restore process more carefully, I noted that on the first screen 'Confirm' the quizzes were shown, however by the time I got to the third screen 'Schema' (wtf is that supposed to mean, should it not be renamed 'Include' or something), only the news forum was listed and the quizzes were not shown at all.

Also note that by default it let me use the same shortname without telling me it was going to change it. IMO it would have been better to set the default shortname to include the _1 or whatever already, and/or give an error if attempting to continue past that page with a shortname that already exists, but I guess that's a separate issue.
