The setting forum_enabletimedposts in Moodle 1.8.2 onwards has the following string:

Set to 'yes' if you want to allow setting of display periods when posting a new forum discussion (Experimental as not yet fully tested).

I suggest we test the feature thoroughly then remove the experimental label.
