Performance on OU live site is an issue - any ideas on how to speed things up?

During our testing in the autumn on an acceptance test server we never had any cause to question the speed at which the Gradebook ran. In our test course we used 40 students from a course of 800 and each student ran ~10 tests. But of course we were not on a live server.

We have just imported our first three sets of scores into the Gradebook on our live server and the speed at which the Gradebook shows the data is a concern. Typically it takes ~1 minute 20 secs to show the scores and averages for 3 tests for ~350 students.

We are able to speed this up to make it usable by turning off show column averages and the time for a refresh comes down to ~14 secs.

      A variety of questions follow
1 Would you have any ideas if there are other settings that we might turn off to speed things up? e.g. would turning 'Enable outcomes' off have a noticeble effect.
2 Would you have any thoughts on where the bottleneck might be.

Next month we have a course coming along that has ~2,000 students.

      All suggestions welcome.
