When creating a certificate with the certificate module, for courses which has Japanese characters in their name, these characters appear as a ? on the certificate.

This also effects the user name.

Every other field I have found a way to display Japanese characters. This is the only hold out to have a complete Japanese certificate.

Of course this is likely to effect other non latin languages as well.

Reproduction:
1) Create a course which has Japanese characters in the course name.
2) The course name displays correctly within Moodle.
3) Create a certificate module and generate certificate
RESULT: Course name in pop-up certificate has a series of question marks
