Quickmail is described as a block that provides selective, bulk emailing within a course. In MOODLE 1.9, you could add a Quickmail block to the Front page. This was extremely helpful in a K-12 environment. Teachers could easily email a student, for example a mentee, who is not in one of their courses. Students could also easily email another student who is not in one of their courses. Teachers and students used the block to send mass emails to the entire school community.

In MOODLE 2, there does not seem to be the ability to add a Quickmail block to the Front page that teachers and students could use to send selective and bulk emails.
